Most of people are getting used to working on the laptops or notebooks as such. Now in case anybody wants to buy a computer prefer to invest in laptops than in desktop computers owing to space constraints or flexibility of operation with the laptops. People who are already computer users often wonder if they can replace their old desktop with a newer version of laptop or not.
In this kind of a scenario one obvious question that arises is that can the additional Desktop RAM be used for the laptop computers or not? On the face of it the apparent answer would be ‘OBVIOUSLY’ as both are RAMs, and both of them are performing the same functions and also in similar kind of device, but actually the answer is ‘NO’. Desktop RAM cannot be used to replace Laptop RAM and vice versa. The reason for this is because of the different forms and physical appearance that they both have.
Describing the difference technically one can say that the desktop RAM has 100, 168, 184 or 240 pins or slots and is mainly 4.5 inches to 5 inches in length, whereas the Laptop RAM has smaller dimensions. It has 72, 100, 144 or 200 pins and is just 2.5-3 inches in length. So even if it has the same functionality and would have been very helpful if the desktop RAM could fit into the Laptop RAM’s slot, but unfortunately this is not feasible till now. May be with some growing innovative technologies this could be achieved, but till now the spare RAM of Desktop cannot be your Laptop.
