How to increase the capacity of a Micro Memory Card

In the Micro Memory Card or MMC your files are being stored in multiple disk blocks. If by using a 16K block you try formatting, 16K of your space will be used up even though your file is only 1K. When you purchase a Micro Memory Card or an MMC it comes mostly preformatted with a 16K block. AS most of the installed program files are usually less than 2K a lot of space gets wasted. You require a card reader to increase the capacity of a Micro Memory Card in the following way:
  1. You need to connect the card reader and copy all the files that are present in the MMC onto the computer disk. Be careful to set the show all/hidden/os files to ‘on’ mode.
  2. Using command line “format” and the /A=size option, format the Micro Memory Card (MMC). Alternatively, you can make use of the disk management in the administrative tools in order to format, by selecting FAT. For 256MB MMC which is the smallest block you can use 4K. For 128MB MMC it is 2K, 64MB is 1K and 32MB is 512B. Please note that you can’t use the phone “format Micro Memory Card (MMC)” to format as this just helps in clearing the allocation table but doesn’t change the size of the block.
  3. Now copy back all the files onto the Micro Memory Card or MMC. You will find you have more space. A 256MB Micro memory Card or MMC has been able to get back 30+MBs.
