Is Computer RAM 512MB Sufficient For Computers

Viewing a thought from the vantage point of a layman, one can presume that if your computer is running slow and you have done the virus scan and also done the possible hard disk defragmentation, then the obvious course of action to be taken would be to boost up the memory of your computer by adding more RAM. But if you are a professional and have understanding of the hard disk capabilities of computers you would know that introducing extra RAM can only make your computer run fast to a certain point only, because the amount of RAM that a computer can take depends on the kind of processor that you are using.
It is true that increasing RAM from 64MB to 128MB would give 50% boost up in the performance of the machine, however that does not mean that if you increase it from 128MB to 256 MB and then to Computer RAM 512MB there would be continuous increase in 50% of performance value every time. There would be an enhancement but not in that proportion.
The reason being that some old computers are not able to handle more RAM than 512MB as the older motherboards and BIOS (Basic Input Output Systems) were not made to handle more than 512MB of RAM, (though the newer versions are able to handle up to 1GB of RAM). So the important question is as to how much RAM is sufficient for computers. The answer lies in the fact that if your still operating Windows 95 or Windows 98, and your computer usage is limited to just the basics, then you can survive with 64MB of RAM, but if you are using Windows 2000 and XP; then Computer RAM 512MB is a must have, compromising in that would hinder the performance of your system.
