Om Nanotech, the leading India based manufacturer of Computer Memory has recently launched DDR3 4GB 1333MHz for desktops and notebooks. DDR3, the successor of DDR2 memory and is expected to soon become the industry standard. Compared to DDR2, it offers faster transfer speed and better bandwidth with an 8-bit as apposed to 4 bit. Some of latest Intel motherboards can run on DDR3 memory only like, the latest Intel Socket LGA1366 quad-core Core i7 processors (CPUs) can only run on DDR3 memory. DDR3 memory provides a reduction in power consumption of 30% compared to DDR2 modules due to DDR3's 1.5 V supply voltage, compared to DDR2's 1.8 V or DDR's 2.5 V. The 1.5 V supply voltage works well with the 90 nanometer fabrication technology used in the original DDR3 chips. Some manufacturers further propose using "dual-gate" transistors to reduce leakage of current.

At present, the price of DDR3 is higher and the demand is lower than the DDR2 computer RAM, this is due to the less supply and costlier DDR3 Motherboards. But it is assumed that by the end of the 3rd quarter of this year the price of DDR3 modules will be cheaper than the DDR2 as most of the big names like Micron, Hynix, Samsung are now focusing on DDR3 and has shift their production line to DDR3 memory modules.

DDR3 is the latest, high speed memory. These speeds are available: PC3-8500 (DDR3-1066MHz), PC3-10667 (DDR3-1333MHz), PC3-12800 (DDR3-1600MHz), PC3-14900 (DDR3-1866), PC3-16000 (DDR3-2000) Memory.
